What's wrong, baby?

Sophie went in and out of fevers all weekend starting Friday around 4:30 PM. She has had fevers before, so I just gave her a small dose of Infant's Tylenol and figured that she would be fine the next morning. Saturday Sophie woke up cheery, so we went to the Dragon Boat Festival. By the evening, however, her fever was back and her appetite was gone. Sunday morning Sophie's fever was at 102.6, but after a nice long nap, it was down to 99.9. We thought that she would be okay now...we were wrong.

Monday morning her fever spiked to 104.1, so I immediately called the on-call nurse. By the time all my information was taken, the fever had gone down to 103.1, but we still made an appointment to see the pediatrician. After a thirty minute wait, the doctor finally saw us and said Sophie had no symptoms of an ear infection. An in-house test came back negative for the flu, but did reflect a low white blood cell count; Sophie had a viral infection so we just needed to wait it out. After a conversation with my aunt who is a doctor, I have come to the conclusion that Sophie has Roseola because tiny spots started appearing all over her body and face three days after the fever first started. I don't know how she got it, but I'm so glad that it is finally going away. Now all that's left is the complaining. *sigh*

Dragon Boat Festival

Saturday we went to the annual Dragon Boat Festival on Lady Bird Lake. We intended on watching my brother-in-law Sing's team race, but between my usual tardiness and Trung not looking up the directions, we arrived too late. We did not stay long, but it was nice to get out and enjoy the Asian cultures.

Baby Events

Saturday I attended my friend Nina's baby shower and then Amy's first birthday party; the events were back to back! The baby shower was lovely, with wonderful food and a teddy bear in a crib cake. Congrats to Nina and Erlander! :)

Then I drove straight home to join the family in walking over to Sarah's house. We had a good time meeting new people and catching up with friends. I was without my camera for both events, so these are borrowed pictures that I got of Amy's party.

Where a kid can be a kid

Friday night we attended Lily's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheeses. It was our first time there and boy did Lydia have fun.

then giving the real Chuck E. a stare.

We had to send Annie to get Lydia to come down from this tunnel.

Sophie seemed content just sitting on Kay's lap and taking in all the excitement while Trung and I took Lydia around the fun zone.

Sophie's turn to have fun, or just sit there.

Hang on, girls!

Monster truck time!

We can already tell who will love going on roller coaster rides in the future!

Happy birthday, Lily!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Mike

Mike came home from Dubai last week for good...yay! We spent the weekend with him in Houston, but got to spend some quality time with him for a few days during his stay with us in Austin. Yesterday happened to be Mike's birthday, so Trung and I asked our friend and neighbor Sarah to watch the girls (Lydia really...Sophie was in bed already) while we took Mike out to eat. We ate at a highly recommended sushi restaurant called Tomo and it was excellent!

Easter Weekend

We arrived in Houston around 8 PM Friday night. I was in the very back row of the minivan during the drive, keeping the kids entertained, happy, and most importantly, awake. As soon as I bathed and feed Sophie, I was off to the nearest Gymboree to clear our their back room. I did quite a bit of shopping on Saturday as well since all the stores would be closed on Easter Sunday, but I did manage to attend a birthday party and meet up Tiff in the meantime.

The girls played a duet on the piano; Sophie received some assistance from Uncle Mike.
Sophie learned how to climb the stairs also.

Back home

Trung returned last night from Atlanta, where he was gone for five days for Ruby, a programming language, training. He had sessions Wednesday thru Friday and on Saturday our friends Jasper and Bonnie took Trung around town. He got to see quite a bit of Atlanta and take the CNN tour, which he said was really cool because he could see the anchors filming live.

Jasper is my oldest childhood friend and I was hoping to meet up with him too. Trung and I had initially planned to spend the weekend together in Atlanta, but silly me, I waited until the next day to purchase the ticket and it had more than doubled in price ($170 to $400). *sigh* Hopefully I can catch you guys next time, Jasper and Bonnie! Thanks for taking care of Trung for the day! :) The girls and are I very happy that Dada is back home, though the days fortunately passed faster than expected. When asked where Dada was, Lydia would promptly respond, "on airplane". :P

Also, speaking of "back home", it looks like Trung will be working from home again by June. His company has decided to end the lease on the office from which he and three other co-workers had been working. Funny how one reason he got this new job was to work away from the noises of home and now he will be back. We are thinking about rearranging the furniture, so that his office (which is currently in the "dining room" with my inventory) will have a door and can shut out the kids when he is working.

Girls Night

While Trung was away, I invited the girls to come over for a movie and snacks last night. We had a great time just chatting and not worrying about the kids, at least not for a few hours.
Joy, Susanna, Sarah, and Wendy

I don't drink wine that often, and according to Susanna, my wine opening was not very functional. Well, at least we eventually got the cork out.

Yummy snacks...the chocolate covered strawberries and wine came out shortly. I look forward to having another night out with the girls, though I'm definitely glad that Trung is home.

April Fool's Baby

Happy birthday to my sweet Sophie in her runner-up birthday outfit. (Trung insisted that Lydia does purple and Sophie does pink)
